Reception Welcome Message

Welcome to Reception

In Reception we aim to make all children feel safe, secure and happy at school.  Throughout the year, we want all the children to become resilient, confident and independent learners.  To help the children become excited and motivated in the classroom, we will be looking at interesting and imaginative topics such as, ‘Into the Woods’, ‘Toys and Christmas’, ‘The Farm’ and ‘The Seaside’.  To understand and become familiar with each topic, we focus on a book every two weeks which links to the topic.  We study each book in depth and enhance subsequent provision within the classroom and carpet sessions to encourage familiarity with the text and cover relevant objectives across the EYFS curriculum.

This page is intended to give you an overview of the learning in Reception, together with useful information such and our half termly Parent Planner.  We will also be posting examples of our wonderful pieces of work and also including photographs of our exciting learning from class!

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask a member of the Reception Team.

Daily rountine – Our doors open at 8.45am. Home time is 3:15pm.

Attendance – Coming into school every day helps your child to settle into the school’s routine. If you child is unwell, please inform the school as soon as possible that they will not be attending.

Please write your child’s name on all of their belongings as items become easily lost.

We encourage your child to dress and undress themselves at home. This will help prevent the loss of learning timed during school.

Reading books – Your child will be given a reading day. On this day they should bring their reading folders to school. We encourage children to read each night for 10 minutes, this can be the children reading or them sharing a book with an adult. Please ensure that you are asking children questions about the story.

Question examples:
What was your favourite part of the story? Why?
What do you think is going to happen in the story?
What might happen next?
How is X feeling at this moment?
Can you tell me what this word means?

Please see the parent planner to see what we are learning this half term.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to come and speak to me.
